Some Good things I’ve accomplished this year

I forget where I got this idea from, but I thought it was kinda cool to look back at the positive things from the past year, instead of focusing on the other stuff, like I tend to do. So... this is my list of things that I'm proud of. Some Good things that I've done or have attempted to do, this past year
  • Lived on my own
  • Admitted when I needed help
  • Started taking more pictures and have been consistent with it
  • Sponsored a child in Africa (Got my 1st Christmas card from her too!)
  • Read a couple really good books (God grew tired of us, Against Depression, Streams in the desert…)
  • Successfully lead activities at summer camp (1st time as activities director)
  • Started to take back authority in my life that I had given to others
  • Made it through my first semester at Chico State
  • Made some new friends outside of my usual social circle
  • Went two months without biting my fingernails

It's kinda ironic, that I'm listing some accomplishments, and while thinking of them, this song is playing. (Is that ironic? I thought I knew, but the Alanis Morrisette song confused me)

My first crush

No, this is not a boring personal story... well, at least it's not one of my boring, personal stories.

Saw this video on Amit Gupta's blog, and thought it was pretty cool

Things I've learned this year (or have been reminded of, or perhaps I knew all along)

Things I've learned about life and the world in general

  • A good computer (like my MacBook) needs a good name.
  • George is a good name for my MacBook.
  • Life is hard, and sometimes it really sucks. But, if you keep hope, you'll wade through all the crap, and get to the good stuff.
  • Diet Pepsi is the greatest beverage on earth.
  • Everything is funnier when it's said with a British or Australian accent.
  • There's this chemical that's called oxytocin (I think that's how it spelled) that is released in your brain when you cuddle with someone for more than 20 seconds. It causes you to "bond" with that person. The same chemical gets released when a mother holds her newborn baby. (I actually learned that in school)
  • Hondas suck! Or at least every Honda I've ever owned. I think I'll be buying an American made car this time around.

Things I've learned about other people

  • You know who your true friends are, when you screw up or when you fall on hard, uncomfortable times, or when life gets too hard to cope. The ones that are still by your side at the end of the day, are the worthwhile ones. The missing ones, were never really there to begin with. True friends are scarce, and you should hold those friendships sacred, because they are.
  • People that don't find the movie "Better off Dead" funny, are just simply, not funny people. There's something seriously wrong with them...seriously!
  • No matter how hard of shell people seem to have, there's always a creamy center underneath.
  • Babies and Chihuahuas can snore really, really loudly.
  • Confrontation is absolutely necessary in open and honest relationships. Because if someone really cares about you, they'll be courageous enough to say what needs to be said and they'll take the risk of you being mad at them for a while. If you really care about somebody, you'll be willing to take that hit.
  • McDreamy has sad eyes. And his sad eyes, kinda make me sad.

Things I've learned about myself

  • I don't give up on people, and I really like that quality about myself. I always have hope for a better situation. I'm an optimist with a pessimistic shell.
  • I've become a hugger (what's wrong with me???)
  • Not only do I have value in God's eyes, but I actually, deep down, believe it too. I've always known that I had value, but I didn't realize that I actually believed until a couple of months ago.
  • I'll never love going to school. But, I'm okay with that. I don't need to love it, I just need to get through it. And maybe, somewhere along the way, I might even enjoy it every now and again.
  • I want to marry someone with the passion of Steve Irwin. Someone that keeps me on my toes. Not necessarily jumping on crocs, but... I wouldn't be opposed to it.
  • Either I really like the look of shoes that I don't have to tie or I am way to lazy to tie my shoes.

Things I've learned about God

  • God's gonna wait until the timing is just right. He doesn't do a rushed, piss-poor job of things.
  • God uses different ways to get my attention. Whether it be an episode of Scrubs, a verse in the bible, a kind word from a friend, a harsh word from a friend, a car crash, or a pharmacy tech at Longs.
  • I've learned to be more comfortable expressing my doubts and insecurities about my faith, and about God. I've learned it's okay to have those moments, and it's okay to move on from them, also.
  • Can God cook a microwavable burrito so hot, that he can't eat it? Ok, I haven't learned the answer to this question yet, but I am working on it.

That's it for now. What did you learn this year?

Here are some more reasons...

why being lonely is sometimes super cool!
(added by my cousin Jimmy V)

  • It's bad enough you have to put up with your own relatives, you don't need a whole new set.
  • Uncontrollable sobbing is good for the tear ducts.
  • Bicycles built for two are just plain silly looking.
  • It's fun to hear dating advise from your friends. (Who end up broken up or divorced a month later anyway.)
  • You can openly ogle members of the opposite sex. (Or same, the choice is yours!)
  • Imaginary girl friends are cool. Mine's from Canada. (Bonus for knowing that reference)
  • Being sexually frustrated adds years to your life.
  • You can finally live with hundreds of cats and nobody thinks your a weirdo. (To your face anyway.)

Why being lonely is really sometimes super cool!

  • Dinner out is usually cheaper, and you don’t have to eat less cause you’re embarrassed to eat too much in front of a guy.
  • Wine doesn’t go as fast when you don’t have anybody to share it with.
  • You don’t have to argue about who’s gonna drive to wherever it is you’re going.
  • The remote control is all yours.
  • No need to explain away your cheesy music playlists on iTunes
  • Who’s a better date than McDreamy (every Thursday night at 7)?
  • You don’t have to clean your car out
  • You can play Mortal Combat with a friend in Vietnam
  • You can spend all day Saturday making an egg-salad sandwich, only to not feel like eating it, and you don’t have to justify the complete waste of time to anybody.
  • You don’t have to worry about deciding which friends feelings to hurt, when you have to turn down their party because you already have another one to go to.
  • Spend all day responding to blog posts with your super cool blogging friends.

Any others I forgot?
P.S: I was watching an episodes of Scrubs, and JD came up with an idea for an awesome list, so… I decided to follow his lead.

Hey Becky, what blogs do you read?

Okay, nobody's asked me this question yet, but it's a good question, nonetheless, so... here's a list of blogs that I usually check out:
Oh, and I also get a couple of fake blogs or "flogs" from Rudy Guiliani, Gordon Ramsay, and Nancy Grace.

Another Oh - You might be wondering how I get any homework done when I'm constantly on my laptop looking at blogs and news. Here's the secret: I don't get any homework done. :)

Why did the front fall off?

This video goes into my collection of evidence that everything is funnier with a British Accent (or, in this case, Australian Accent)

Who's your candidate?

Find Your Candidate for the 2008 Election

I took the quiz and I matched Mitt Romney 100%. That's kinda cool. I've been torn between Romney and Huckabee. I'm still not sure which way I'll go in the primaries, but I guess there's still time.

PETA is a respectible organization? - Eva Mendes Stars in 'Fur? I'd Rather Go Naked' Ad for PETA - Celebrity Gossip | Entertainment News | Arts And Entertainment

PETA just plain irritates me. Do they really think that parading around celebrities in the nude is the way to gain people to their cause? Eergghh... it's just frustrating to see something like that. I don't have a whole heap of a respect for a celebrity that would "whore" themselves out like this, either. Ok, I guess I'll get off of my soapbox now.

Grandma at 29?

This story shocked me! Maybe it's my naivety or my sheltered childhood, but 29????? She had her daughter when she was 13. That's unbelievable. I can't imagine one of the 13 year olds in our youth group having a child! Wow, my heart just goes out to this family and the other families that are in this same position.

The F-Word (Chef Ramsay's TV show)?

Found this cool site, for people that love Gordon Ramsay. I think the thing about him that's appealing to me, is that he say's what he's thinking or feeling at the time. He doesn't worry about people's feelings or reactions, he says what he feels, needs to be said. I guess there's that rebel in me, that wants to be like him. But, I'm not that person. I care about people's feelings. Maybe it would be different if I owned a restaurant and it was my reputation on the line, but I just can't yell at people and call them idiots, even if they're acting like one. That's just not me.
Oh well, I can live vicariously through Chef Ramsay.
